handle sticky slurries
Drum dryers are designed to convert low-concentration pharmaceuticals and thick, sticky food slurries into stable, easily handled powders and flakes. Slow rotating drum is heated internally with steam. Product is applied to outside of drum where water is vaporized and full-length knife removes dried product from drum. Drum dryers are thermally efficient using only 1.1 to 1.3 lb. of steam per lb. of water evaporated.
