Multi-Variable Flowmeter

CIRCOR Tech introduced a new pressure-based flow measurement and control technology to address the unique low-flow monitoring and control requirements of process analytical and chemical process control applications. Called the DMT Series multi-variable flowmeter, it simultaneously measures upstream and downstream pressure, fluid temperature, and flow rate for liquids or gases.

Patrick Lowery, P.E., the company's director of product development, says the new flowmeter does all this while providing the ruggedness, repeatability, and safety of a field process instrument. He adds: "In addition to the outstanding measurement functions, the DMT Series incorporates patent-pending, non-clogging flow restriction technology and integral pressure relief to protect the flow sensor in sudden or accidental overpressure situations."

Unlike conventional low-flow meters, such as thermal mass flow devices, DMT Series flowmeters provide multi-variable measurement data and control through either a CANbus (CT76 iCAN or CANopen) or Modbus RTU digital interface. They also offer full IP65 and NEMA4x protection in severe environmental conditions. They're designed for low-power, fault-tolerant, intrinsic safety/non-incendive applications.

Explains Lowery: "The DMT flowmeter is the first device of its kind to provide full multi-variable measurement and closed-loop control in a Class 1, Division 1 hazardous area, without requiring explosion-proof conduits and enclosures."
